The hotel was nice and you couldn't ask for a better location for
getting around Whistler Village or access to the hill. The rooms were
average for the price but the service was excellent. The car and ski
valets were a huge hit and the front desk and room service team very
quick to respond.

Rooms are very comfortable (beds are amazing!) with nice views and the
location is probably the best in town. The pool/hot tub areas were a
little disappointing as the tubs were cold on our first visit and the
area was generally crowded in the evenings, however my husband & I had
treatments on two occasions in the Spa and the therapists were
excellent. My only gripe was that the ski valet and wi-fi should be free
- even when you pay for the valet then they do not take your ski poles
and you are not generally allowed to take these into bars. Overall a
great stay though and I would definitely consider staying again.

The proximity to the gondola makes this so easy--especially for
families. The rooms are well appointed and spacious. My major
objection--the hot tubs are too small and crowded. Otherwise, the Westin
Whistler is the best place/value in Whistler!

Our party stayed in adjoining rooms, a junior and a one bedroom suite.
The rooms were clean and well appointed. The fireplace was a nice touch
given the cool wet weather at the time. The kitchenette/ dinette was
more than adequate for our needs. I found the bed to be wonderful and
slept comfortably and soundly. The bathroom offered a choice of a soaker
tub or shower and was of decent size.
The location was great and there were many restaurants within a short
walk. In fact, the village is small enough to allow walking to whatever
attracts you.

I did have a similar experience to the last reviewer in that I found the
parking very expensive and the indoor parking spots cramped. I was a
little surprised since most of my past trips to Whistler were to ski and
we usually drove vans or SUVs. My solution was to park well away from
the exit in a less busy area but it certainly wasn't convenient.
I also believe that the internet charge was about $15 and I too had
erroneous charges on my bill which required me going to the front desk
to resolve. One should take into account the extra charges when
budgeting for trips at the Westin as they can add a significant cost.

Very friendly and helpful staff on arrival, awesome room overlooking the
village. Very central location, 2-3 minute walk to the main lifts. Hotel
has a ski valet waiting at the bottom of the slopes in the late
afternoon, truly excellent service. No doubting its an expensive hotel,
but its worth it.
Room Tip: Overlooking the village is a terrific view, but more expensive

I stayed there over Thanksgiving 2011. The place is a ripoff. Their loss
leader is the low nightly room rates but then they get you with just
about anything else. They'll nickel and dime you to death.
First, parking is $28/day for self-park and $32/day for valet. The
parking spots are ridiculously small so DO NOT GO there in a nice car -
you'll get dinged. It's impossible to get out of your car without
hitting a wall or another car. Yes, the distance between cars is like 1
foot, definitely smaller than any parking spaces I've seen in Beverly
Hills or downtown LA.
Second, Internet/Wi-Fi fees per day was so high I don't even remember
the number now. But what: is this year 2001 and why is internet access
an accessory?? Can you not offer it for free?? What a joke! I guess
you'd rather sit there with unutilized internet than rip off 2 people
willing to pay for it and hardly utilize a service you're paying for
anyway, Westin.
Third: ski valet: the price is not advertised at the ski valet location
but it shows up on your bill when you check out: $8/day. Chi-ching!
And don't tell me the place is for the well-off so if I can't afford it
I shouldn't go to Westin! Last time I checked, nobody likes to be
nickeled and dimed, even the rich folks.
Quite the contrary actually: if the place was for rich folks, then their
prices would be adjusted accordingly and the hotel wouldn't try to
nickel and dime the hell out of their customers.
Then, to put a nice lid on everything, they messed up my final bill and
slapped something on it called "Transient Discount Internet" for
$153.45/day for each day I stayed there (wow! the discount is $153, can
you imagine what that would be without the discount, but still they're
so nice to give me a discount, isn't that sweet??). When I asked what
the charge was was they (Mr. Colin Whatever-his-last-name-is) didn't
even look at it, he just automatically said it was a "mistake" and would
be taken off. [...]?? These people are really shady! Watch your back or
you'll get stabbed right in the heart by Westin (if you wear your wallet
in your left shirt pocket)!
Other than that the place is nice - great service and clean and nice
rooms. But after this experience I wouldn't go to this Westin again!
The restaurant (Aubergrine?) had great food but the prices are
ridiculous. At least if they had nice tables to sit on I wouldn't [...]
about it but the tables they had were not with four legs as you'd expect
from a restaurant where a humble dinner bill for two goes to upwards of
$150 but they had that cone-base leg table, the ones you'd find if you
went to McDonalds or some other cheap place. What the hell is wrong with
these people?? Is that how you roll in Canada?? Gee!

We arrived at the hotel about 3 p.m. having been delayed for a couple of
hours in a traffic build up due to a bike race between Vancouver and
Whistler. There was a long queue at check in but there were several
members of staff to deal with it. We were greeted by a friendly and
pleasant girl who advised us that although we had requested a high floor
we were actually allocated a room on a lower floor. When we expressed
our disappointment she found a room on the 6th floor which would be
ready in 40 mins .As I have poor eyesight I prefer higher floors as they
are usually brighter and easier for me to see so we agreed to wait. We
were told the top 3 floors were block booked.
We had booked a one bedroom suite. On entering the room I thought it
smelt musty and I noticed the windows were very dirty on the inside as
well as outside. I had the impression the room was not used much. The
view was of lots of high fir trees directly outside the window which
blocked the light and made the room feel gloomy. However the room
appeared clean and the amenities were excellent with a full kitchenette
crockery etc. There was a big deep bath and a separate shower and the
bed was very comfortable. We also had a fireplace in the living room and
a second t.v. in the bedroom. There was a balcony off the living room
with a great view of the fir trees up close.
The bar staff were attentive and friendly and my husband was able to
watch the rugby world cup in the bar. However on the second day when we
returned to the room I found an empty condom wrapper on the floor in a
cupboard where the ironing board is kept. This was definitely not there
the day before as I had checked the cupboard to find the ironing board.
My husband took it down to reception and within a short space of time we
had received an apology from the manager and an offer of a complimentary
buffet breakfast which we accepted. We were also told we would be met by
the housekeeping manager before checkout. On reflexion we should have
asked for a change of room as I had been concerned that someone had been
in our room in our absence. We checked out the next morning . There was
no meeting with the housekeeping manager and no mention of it by the
English girl who checked us out in a businesslike manner. I did enjoy my
stay in Whistler but my memories of this hotel will always be of a
gloomy room with an unpleasant incident . I did appreciate the quick
response from the manager but regret that we did not insist on being
moved as it may have made all the difference to our stay. I would not
stay here again |
