Hotel Review of the Fairmont Hotel Chateau Whistler
Feb 11, 2011
We decided to stay at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler resort for my
husband's birthday trip to Whistler. The room was very nice and very
clean. However, the customer service in this hotel was out of this
world. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful and really tried to
make sure we were spoiled by the time we left. Though this hotel may be
a bit pricier than the alternatives, it was worth every penny.
My husband was injured while skiing and when I asked the valet to get
our car so I could go get him, he offered to drive me there and come
pick us up with the hotel Suburban. It was one less thing I had to worry
about and i really appreciated it!
They have a nightly turn down service which includes bottles of water
and a weather report for the next day. They also gave us a free upgrade
to a deluxe room and gave us some free chocolate covered strawberries
for my husband's birthday.
On Friday and Saturday nights the restaurant has $15 entrees, we had the
prime rib on Saturday night and it was well worth $15. Portobella has
some great options for a quick meal, especially breakfast. Their Belgian
hot chocolate is delicious.

Have just checked out of the Chateau having spent three nights there.
From check in to check out everything was absolutely perfect. Had a
great room on the seventh floor overlooking the slopes, with absolutely
no complaints about it at all. Having stayed at various five star
establishments with different hotel groups across the globe, this one is
just as good and we cannot understand bad reviews. Enjoyed breakfast,
dinner and even afternoon tea. The health club and pool area are
excellent, with a choice of three hot tubs to soak in after a day on the
slopes.
Whether it makes any difference if you book directly with the hotel but
we did it independently and definitely find no reason to voice any
issues whatsoever, we got what we paid for and more!

This is our first time to visit Whistler, the check in was smooth, a
complimentary shuttle to the village runs every 15mins unti 10pm...Valet
service was a breeze...The room was spacious, the pool was awesome, my
children loved swimming at night...they even have robes for kids as
young as 2 years old! that was cute!.. the back of the hotel is where
the lift to Blackcomb, you can also borrow a toboggan and play there,
which my kids did.. We had room service from the Wildflower, kids meal
was a good deal $8 for chicken strips ( i believe 4 or 5 pieces) plus
drink and 3 huge scoop of ice cream. I had New York Steak which was
perfectly done.. .. The only thing I didn't like was the thermostat for
the ac which was hard to figure out and no matter which direction we
turn, it just wasn't cool enough. and the fridge needs to be replaced as
it didn't get cold...But that's minor, if those were fixed, it would
have been perfect! Will definitely stay there again

For years, I have visited Whistler and dreamed of staying at the
Fairmont. The location can't be beat, all those beautiful pools and hot
tubs beckoning from the bottom of the Blackcomb lifts. I was very
excited to spend this past weekend there as part of their "Stay and Ski"
package.
Sadly, it was not what I had hoped. The rooms were spacious and the beds
comfortable, and there was a feeling of luxury, but it was a feeling of
luxury going to waste. There were problems with the basic
infrastructure: NEITHER of the bathrooms in the the women's restroom in
the health club area were operational, meaning that if you wanted to use
the facilities you had to walk out into the lobby in your bathing suit.
One of the outdoor hot tubs wasn't hot at all, so the other two were
packed to the gills. In our guestroom, the shower door latch was broken
and wouldn't close. These are just a few examples of the kind of basics
you would expect to be taken care of in a place like the Fairmont.
Further, the staff made us feel nickeled and dimed. For example, after
paying $60 for two days of parking, we asked to leave our car in the lot
for an extra hour and were charged an extra $5. Was that $5 really worth
the bad taste something like that leaves? Also, we had been sold the ski
and stay package, which I booked over the phone. The person on the phone
did NOT explain that if you pay for two nights stay, you only get lift
tickets for one day. I understand now that this is how their package
works, but the night manager told me that I was definitely NOT the first
person to misunderstand this deal. However, instead of putting it right
by getting us the extra lift tickets, the day manager "met us halfway"
and gave us credit for HALF the price of the lift tickets in our room
rate. I guess that's nice, but I had to talk to four different people to
make that happen, and it added to the feeling of just not being taken
care of. The $8 cans of beer at the pool (before tax and tip) didn't
help.

This hotel was an embarrassment. We brought some out of town business
associates to show them how great Whistler was, and thought we were
staying at a great hotel, But it didn't take very long to figure out
this was a mistake. From the time at checkin to when we left, we were
constantly disappointed by the terrible service. Not to mention the run
down rooms. We booked the Club floor and it was really not worth the
extra.
Really really do not recommend this one... Rather pay the extra and stay
at the Four Seasons!
