Hotel Review of the
Tantalus Lodge Whistler
Feb 24, 2011
The hotel was everything we expected. It was much closer to the lifts than I
expected. We stayed with 8 people in a condo with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and it
slept 8 people. There was a queen, 2 twins, twin bunk beds, and a sofa bed.
Sleeping was fine, there was not much room for the people staying in the hallway
and living room to put their things, but the price was exactly what we were
looking for. The staff was very friendly, the shuttle was always there when we
needed it. I would go back there forsure. The two negative things are that you
have to pay $5/day for wireless internet and parking is $17/night

We found this hotel in the last minute Whistler deals. We booked a suite with 1
large bedroom (2 single beds), living room with fireplace and flat screen TV and
full kitchen, for 2 nights at $150/night tax included. Four of us girls slept 2
nights, and each paid $75 total - what a great deal! The couch in the living
room pulled out and slept 2 people.
I was really impressed with the Suite - you could tell that it has been recently
renovated, because the hallways were not as new.
A few of the pluses about this hotel: 2 hot-tubs, a heated pool, cleaning
service, free shuttle bus to the Gondola (we could have walked, but the shuttle
leaves ever 5 min.), full kitchen (microwave, dishwasher, oven, etc) and cheap
daily Internet and free parking.
When we checked out on our last day of skiing, the staff even offered that we
use the showers and hot-tub at the end of the ski day.

Pros
Walking distance to village
Big pool, nice on sunny day
Cons
Old and in desperate need of renovations
Blood coloured huge stain on the carpet
Horrible bathroom lighting - bright and cold
Thin sheets and covers
All round unpleasant, badly decorated, cold rooms
Punch mark in walls
Could be a decent hotel if they do some renovations. Our room was so terrible
that we ended up sleeping on a friend's couch

Tantalus Lodge Whistler

We come to Whistler every year at Xmas time for an annual family ski vacation.
Each year, I book the most reasonable two bedroom suite that is in Whistler
village. This year it was the Tantalus lodge for the first time. My first
impression was of the extremely competent and friendly staff. We pretty well had
all that we needed. There were lockers for our skis. For me it was a relatively
short walk to the lifts, however my husband opted to take the shuttle if it was
available at the time we were leaving/returning. This is the closest we have
stayed to the lifts but I found the location a little bit of a hike to
everything else. We are used to staying close to the Marketplace. The rooms were
very clean. However there were numerous small problems such as no plug for the
sink, a can opener that didn't work and the racks in the dishwasher were broken.
It was a change from the condos we normally stay at in that there was no DVD
player - just access to more expensive movies and there was a charge for
telephone calls. It might have been our location in the lodge and perhaps bad
timing - but we were kept up many nights for one reason or another. Noisy people
walking in from the parking garage at 3 am, a false fire alarm with fire trucks
attending one night and snow clearing equipment. All in all given Whistler
prices this was incredibly good value for the price even with the minor
inconveniences.

Great for a larger group
Went up to Whistler with my 3 friends and we spent the night there, it was a
last minute thing. Our room consist of 2 separate individual rooms, one with 2
singles and 1 with a double or queen. Out in the living room there was another
sofa bed. Our room looked as if it has been renovated, we stayed on the top
floor, 5th floor. Everything was fairly new. What I liked best about our room
was that we had 2 separate balconies on either side of our room. The room is
smoke-free itself but you are allowed to smoke out in the balconies. Another
thing is that the hotel is extremely sound proof, I think. Or maybe it was
because we stayed on the very top floor with a staircase leading to our living
room/room so it is more detached. I do recommend this hotel, our room was
spacious and clean, the kitchen was well equipped with everything and almost
anything you could ask for.
