Hotel Review of the Listel Whistler Hotel
15 October 2011
Our rooms were great, we stayed in a double/deluxe queen room, the beds were
amazing and the bathrooms modern and functional. Service was an entirely
different matter. Our first morning we came down for breakfast into the dining
room which has about 30-40 tables, only 4 or so were set for breakfast and we
were informed by a very bored looking waitress we would have to share a table
with another couple because none of the others were set. It is not that I'm not
a people person but we were on a romantic getaway, the last thing we wanted was
to share our time with other people. The next morning we came down for breakfast
and the room we were in the previous morning was locked with no explanation or
signs to tell us where to go, after looking around we found the new breakfast
room and went in, the two staff members who were supposedly "working" were
sitting at one of the tables having coffee and a chat, which wouldn't have been
so bad if every second word out of the "supervisors" mouth wasn't a profanity,
we only know she was a supervisor through the course of the very loud
conversation we overheard that was about management practices of the hotel. I
have worked in almost every position within the hospitality industry and the
general rule is do not let guests hear you talking about the business, do not
eat or drink in front of the guest while on shift and most of all, do NOT use
profanities or foul language in front of the guest, they sat there the whole
time we were having breakfast and we ended up having to leave because we
couldn't listen anymore.
The front desk staff, once the bothered to come to the desk, were not very
helpful, no smiles no suggestions of things to do when we asked and just
generally very bored looking.
All in all, sleep quality was amazing, service was not!

The Staff of The Listel Hotel were amazing. We were always greeted with a smile
and felt very at ease. They were there to make your trip enjoyable. It didn't
matter what we were looking for: meals/entertainment/adventure/trails etc. we
were always sent in the right direction. The manager was incredibly
knowledgeable, accommodating and went out of his way for us on many occasions.
The rooms were neat, clean, tidy and the location is only steps away from the
village. In our opinions, it is money well spent.

This was a recommended hotel to stay at by the visitor centre representatives.
It was on special for $100 bucks (included a breakfast). One of the managers (zac)
suggested the peak to peak gondola ride and it was unreal! Definitely a great
choice, and would stay again in a heart beat! Thank-you Listel staff!

Driving to Edmonton from Vancouver via Highway 99. Like to stop one night in
Whistler during shoulder season, Chose this hotel after a Web search for my
criteria including underground parking (public parking is a long way from
"Village" hotels). Web site promoted underground parking without any conditions.
Reserved room on the Web, then paid deposit by credit card. After this deal was
done, the confirmation then announced - oh yes - $18 per night for parking. This
is entrapment and misleading!! Not a fair business practice as there were other
hotel room deals in Whistler at this time of year (end September).
Hotel reasonable, staff courteous and room good. Hallway noise prevalent.

Perhaps a bit misleading, several websites listed the Listel as a Best Western
hotel. Not that I'm stuck on Best Western but on this trip we found them about
the best and only upon booking via the Listel website did I discover that they
were no longer affiliated with BW. Anyway, we had difficulty finding the place
at first and parking was very limited at the front of the hotel for checking in.
But checking in was a snap and getting around to the underground parking area
easy. Parking is limited tho and if full they "stack" the cars where ever they
can which can make leaving a chore if you have other cars parked behind you.
This hotel is fairly busy and the carpets etc are showing their age. Our room
was ok with the expected standard features. It looked over the alleyway at the
back and was very noisy early in the morning with delivery trucks and trash
pickup.
The breakfast was ok but limited and not equal to what was provided at Best
Westerns.
Overall it's pretty average. Staff were friendly and efficient. Wifi access
pretty quick and good. We didn't eat at the attached restaurant so can't
comment. The location of the hotel is good though and it's a short walk to just
about everything in Whistler. |
